Delphine Richer
About PRIVEE
With PRIVEE, the French artist Delphine Richer works on the topic of the video surveillance.
From her home address, Delphine Richer walks through her town. The 10-minute video is both a record of her 13km walk and the final form of the artwork. Throughout her journey, all the surveillance cameras she encounters appear and disappear in turn, depending on whether they capture her passage. Thanks to the GPS tracker the artist wore for this purpose, the video gradually traces her route, ultimately revealing its meaning.
In French, "PRIVEE" means "PRIVATE" as in "vie privée" (private life) and it also means "deprived" for a feminine subject.
Excerpt from the interview for « Vogue+ China »:
"This time, for MIPAF*, my inspiration comes from my small French town where I have noticed a significant increase in video surveillance year after year. The signs informing passers-by of the presence of cameras originally used the expression "video surveillance". After a few years, these were corrected to announce "video protection". Today, they warn of a "video issuing of a fine".
