This performance holds a very special significance and meaning for Delphine Richer, is linked to mourning.
The work is a pagan prayer-walk, dedicated to the loved one whose death inspired the project of the artist's partner, who decided to devote a year and a half of his life to an itinerant march.
Invited to Cologne for a performance walk entitled “Unterwegs 4” (Roads 4), Delphine's performance spans the entire route. Along the designated path, Delphine Richer marks a small black line on her body with a grease pencil at each step. Upon arrival, the artist connects them in groups of seven by crossing them out. Thus linked, the vertical lines that marked her walk ultimately resemble scars. Delphine then counts her steps.
Like a quest whose object is its own process, the performance culminates in its title: “2470 Steps Towards…”
